Interpretation / Description

Lhasa Cityscape. (See HAR #12625).

At the center of the composition is the Potala Palace built in the mid 17th century. At the top left is Drepung Monastery and on the right is Sera Monastery. At the bottom right is the town of Lhasa with the Lhasa Tsuglakang Cathedral at the center. At the bottom left is Sangpu Neutog (gsang phu ne'u thog dgon pa). At the middle left side is the small image of the stupa gate, the entrance to Lhasa from the west side. On the hill to the left of the gate is Chakpori with the Lhasa medical college situated at the very top.
