In the Bon religion of Tibet and the Himalayan regions the 'A' letter is used as an external representation for the internal meditation on the visualised letter 'A'. The letter 'A' is also found on the chest of the deity Kunzang Akor and on the right facing hand of Kunzang Gyalwa Dupa. An 'A' can also be found adorning a painted chorten accompanied by textual explanations at the sides of the composition.

The Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism has similar uses for the Tibetan letter 'A'.
