The lineage of Panchen Lamas include pre-incarnations beginning with Subhuti, a direct disciple of the Buddha. The Nartang Block Print set was likely created at the time of the 2nd or 3rd Panchen Lama. Certainly there is evidence for the original set ending with the forward facing 2nd Panchen Lama Lobzang Yeshe. Images of a forward facing figure were also created for the 3rd and 4th Panchen Lamas.
