Tibet: Bodong E Monastery

Bodong E Monastery | Bodong Tradition | Map of U-Tsang

The monastery was founded in 1049 by Geshe Mudrapa Chenpo. It was the home to famous scholars and teachers such as Pang Lotsawa and Bodong Panchen Chogle Namgyal (1375-1451).

Khyentse Chokyi Lodro allies the Bodong Tradition with the Sakya Tradition and states: "There are three Traditions holding the lineage of Sakya Pandita: the Sakya, the Ngor and the Tshar. From the root of the Sakya Tradition came the three renowned lineages of Bulug, Jonang and Bodong. From all these, a few minor differences in their views of the Sutras and Tantras have emerged from their explanations."
