Padmasambhava with the two consorts below and various deities and students above.
At the bottom center written in Tibetan script are the names of Mandarava and Yeshe Tsogyal, the two consorts of Padmasambhava. They are Indian and Tibetan respectively. Below that are four lines of prayers. Written across the width of the bottom is the following:
"At the end of the five hundred years,
As a result of bad karma the Tibetan people will suffer continuously,
Recalling your life story and praying to you,
Myself along with the beings of the six realms,
Look upon us with kindness and bestow blessings."
On the reverse of the painting is a depiction of Shakyamuni Buddha surrounded by eight Indian scholars and panditas known as the the Six Ornaments and Two Excellent Ones of the Southern Continent.
