Interpretation / Description

Lakshmi Narayan with attendant deities and avatar forms.

Lakshmi is peaceful in appearance, white in colour, with one face and eight hands, standing. Two attendant figures stand at the right and left sides while a red Garuda kneels in front. In two vertical registers there are twelve forms similar to Lakshmi with one face and four arms, standing, six on the right and six on the left. Those also have two accompanying attendants.

In the outer vertical registers on the right and left there are fourteen forms of Vishnu in his avatar roles such as Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Rama, Buddha and Kalki.

The horizontal register beneath the central figure contains the prominent Indian Gods. The lower register depicts donor figures and a Hindu priest performing a ritual service.
