Item: Teacher (Lama) - Sonam Lhundrup

Lowo Khenchen Sonam Lhundrub (1456-1532): surrounded by life story narrative vignettes. He was the son of the 2nd Mustang Dharma King Agon Sangpo and traveled to Central Tibet several times to study at the great Sakya and Ngor monasteries [TBRC P782]. (See HAR #23047).

The person standing to the proper right of Lowo Khenchen is Jamyang Kunga Sonam Dragpa (1485-1533), the 23rd Sakya Trizin. The person on the proper left is Ngagchang Chenpo Kunga Rinchen (1517-1584), the 24th Sakya Trizin. Sonam Lhundrub was a teacher to both of these important religious and political figures.

The narrative unfolds from the viewer's top right and proceeds clockwise around the painting with the birth of Sonam Lhundrub up to and including his death and cremation.

The painting was created and commissioned by Palden Lodro. Currently no information about him has been found.
