Interpretation / Description

Shakyamuni Buddha with the two attendants Shariputra and Maudgalyayana.

An inscription on the back states that it was painted by Mantangpa. However artists notations visible throughout the painting more than suggest that it was drawn by a senior or master artist and left to a single student or a number of junior students to fill in the various colours. Typically the shading and finishing would be done by the senior artist.
