Interpretation / Description

Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen (1859-1933).

The 19th century was a period of tremendous scholarship and eclecticism in eastern Tibet. For the Bon religion this was best represented by the scholar and teacher Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen. Interested in all subjects, he wrote five large collections of works known as 'the Five Treasures' following the model of the earlier encyclopedic Buddhist scholar Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Taye.

At the top center is Pema Jungne with Jambaiyang on the left and the teacher Tsultrim Tenpai Gyaltsen on the right. At the bottom left is Trowo Pur Nag (Purba Drugse Chempa). At the right is Tugje Kundrol.
