Interpretation / Description

Konchog Bang: a pre-incarnation of the Dalai Lama. This painting is composition #2 produced from a famous set of wood blocks depicting the entire lineage of Dalai Lamas including several the pre-incarnations.

The Dalai Lama set is believed to be modelled after the famous 18th century Nartang Monastery set that depicts the incarnation lineage of the Panchen Lamas. See a complete set of the Dalai Lama Incarnation Lineage block print compositions from Tibet House, New Delhi.
