Interpretation / Description

Manuscript Title Page from a Buddhist text along with two illuminations. On the left side is the bodhisattva Maitreya holding the attributes of a water pot and a Dharma wheel. On the right side is the female personification of the Perfection of Wisdom sutra literature, Prahjnaparamita. She has one one face and four arms. The first two hands perform the Dharma teaching gesture. The second pair of hands hold a vajra scepter and a folio book.

The title page has two different scripts, Mongolian and Manchu, both written vertically.
