Interpretation / Description

Deshin Shegpa, 5th Karmapa (1384-1415): composition number #16 from the Karma Kagyu Sertreng set of lineage paintings.

At the top right is the meditational deity Manjushri. Seated at the middle right is the Chinese Ming emperor Yongle Zhu Di. This scene depicts Karmapa's visit to Nanjing.
