Video: The Wheel in Himalayan Art

The Dharma Wheel is found in early art as a standing symbol accompanied by two resting deer. The wheel is also found in two important early number sets, the Seven Jewels of Royal Power and the Eight Auspicious Symbols.

Deities that hold the hand attribute of a wheel are Maitreya, Pratisara, and wrathful forms of Manjushri such as Krishna Yamari and Vajrabhairava. Historical figures that hold the wheel symbol are Dharma kings, both Indian and Tibetan, Drogon Chogyal Pagpa, the 5th Dalai Lama and the 13th Dalai Lamas.
