There appears to be only four black or blue-black forms of Tara. The fist is the true solitary black Tara known as Mahachina Krama. The other three Taras belong to the Suryagupta system of Twenty-one Taras. Some paintings show four Taras in a black or dark blue colouring. Regarding the Atisha system the source texts need to be consulted to know for sure which Taras are dark in colour or blue-black. A general survey of various paintings tend to indicate that there might be three Taras that are dark in colour.

From the Nyingma 'Revealed Treasure' traditions of Jugme Lingpa and Choggyur Lingpa there appears to be three forms of Tara that are blue or blue-black.
