Rubin Museum of Art, New York
February 9, March 26 , 2007
RMA's Artist-in-Residence, Pema Rinzin, will begin his new mural project in a studio staged on the 6th floor. The public will have an opportunity to observe the artist's process from line drawing to its initial layers of pigment and speak with him in the context of paintings from the Museum's collection.
As visitors watch Rinzin create images--making choices of line, color, and composition--and compare this artist's methods with historical precedents nearby, elements of individual style and technique will become apparent, carrying the viewer further into the connoisseurship of painting.
