Item: Buddha - Ratnagni

Ratnagni Buddha: from the group of the Thirty-five Confession Buddhas. This composition belongs to a thirty-five painting set. Each composition would have likely been commissioned by an individual or a family. For this composition the donor is named Rinchen Ngodrub who lived in a region of Tibet called Upper Mu. Apart from the central Confession Buddha theme, each painting would have in the lower part of the composition a narrative scene depicting one of the Thirty-four Jataka tales describing the previous lives of Shakyamuni Buddha. Currently there are no other paintings from this set known.

Inscription:

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི། བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱི་རིན་ཆེན་མེ་འོད་ལས། བསོད་ནམས་མཐའ་ཡས་རྒྱལ་སྲས་སྤྱོད་པའི་སྤྲིན། འཇིག་རྟེན་ཀུན་ཏུ་ཁྱབ་པར་སྤྲོ་མཛད་པ། མགོན་པོ་རིན་ཆེན་མེ་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ།

"Om svasti! From the precious fire light of the enlightenment thought, a cloud of actions [producing] infinite merit of the conquerors and sons, with delight pervading the entire universe, to the Lord Ratnagni [Buddha] I bow."

གང་སྐུ་ཉམས་དང་རྣམ་འགྱུར་རུས་ཚུགས་བཅས། ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྒྱུ་མའི་རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་འདི། སྨུ་ཕུ་ནས་སྐྱེས་རིན་ཆེན་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཀྱིས། གཏན་གྱི་བདེ་བ་ཐོབ་ཕྱིར་འབད་པས་བསྐྲུན།

"This elegant form, expression and composition, along with this omniscient emanation of wisdom magic, I Rinchen Ngodrup who was born in Upper Mu, commissioned this [painting] with great effort in order to obtain everlasting happiness."

དམ་ཚིག་སེམས་དཔའི་ལྷ་ལམ་ཡངས་པ་ལ། ཡེ་ཤེས་སེམས་དཔའི་རྟ་བདུན་བདག་པོ་རྣམས། འཆར་ནུབ་བྲལ་བར་བརྟན་པར་བཞུགས་ནས་ཀྱང་། སྲིད་ཞིའི་ལེགས་ཚོགས་པད་ཚལ་རྒྱས་པར་མཛོད།

"The Samaya Beings in the broad sky, the Jnana Beings chariot lords, always remaining free from rising and setting, expanding [like] petals of prosperity and well-being in [all] of samsara and nirvana."

འདི་མཚོན་དུས་གསུམ་བསགས་པའི་རྣམ་དཀར་མཐུས། སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོ་ལྟོས་བཅས་ཐམས་ཅད་དང་། ནམ་མཁའི་མཐའ་དང་མཉམ་པའི་འགྲོ་བ་རྣམས། མྱུར་དུ་ཐམས་ཅད་གཟིགས་པ་ཐོབ་གྱུར་ཅིག།

"By the accumulation of virtuous action in three times, [and the work] of all the dependent sponsors, all beings equal to limitless space, may we quickly attain the stage of the all-seeing."

ཇི་སྲིད་གོ་འཕང་མཆོག་དེར་མ་རེག་བར། མི་ཁོམ་གནས་སུ་ནམ་ཡང་མི་སྐྱེ་ཞིང་། འཁོར་ལོ་བཞི་ལྡན་རྟེན་བཟང་ཐོབ་གྱུར་ཏེ། ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་འཛིན་ལ་ཟླ་བྲལ་ཤོག།

"Until reaching to the supreme stage, never being born in unfavorable conditions, endowed with an excellent body and the four great wheels, may I become matchless and hold the entirety of Buddha's teachings."
གང་གང་ཉམས་ཐག་ཉོན་མོངས་དེ་དེའི་ཕྱིར། ཡང་ཡང་མནག་དཀའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་དངས་བླངས་ནས། གཅེས་གཅེས་སྲོག་ཀྱང་འཕང་མེད་གཏོང་བ་དང་། དཀའ་དཀའི་རླབས་ཆེན་སྤྱོད་པ་སྤྱད་པར་ཤོག།

"Whoever suffers much by the kleshas, enduring their suffering voluntarily, even sacrificing the valuable life without greed, may I be able to engage in the most difficult and greatest conduct."

རྒྱུ་རྐྱེན་སྣ་ཚོགས་བྱེད་པོས་སྤྲུལ་པ་ཡིས། འཁོར་འདས་རྟེན་འབྱུང་རང་བཞིན་མེད་པའི་ཚུལ། མི་རྟོག་བཞིན་དུ་འགྲོ་བ་མ་ལུས་པའི། རེ་བ་ཐམས་ཅད་རྫོགས་པར་བྱེད་པར་ཤོག།

"By the manifestation of various causes and conditions, samsara and nirvana, through interdependent origination are non existent in reality, beyond conception, and may the wishes of all beings be fulfilled completely."

གནས་སྐབས་སུ་ཡང་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཁམས་རྣམས་སུ། མི་འདོད་ཉེར་འཚེ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཞི་བ་དང་། ལེགས་ཚོགས་དབྱར་མཚོ་ལྟ་བུར་རྒྱས་པ་དང་། བཀྲ་ཤིས་དགེ་མཚན་ཕྱོགས་མཐར་ཁྱབ་གྱུར་ཅིག།

"Even for the impermanence in this world, pacify all undesirable dangers, grow in prosperity and well-being like a summer sea, may favorable conditions and benefit spread in every direction."
སུ་པྲ་ཏིཥྠ་བཛྲ་ཡེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།
