Padma Sambhava Like other westerners of his era, Roerich was a devotee of yet-to-be revealed lands, in particular of Shambhala, a fabled mountain-ringed kingdom variously situated north of Kashmir where the apocalyptical battle between forces of light and darkness would take place, the forces of light led by Shambhala's ruler, King Rigden Jyepo.
