MADONNA ORIFLAMMA
Along with his art and the institutions
he founded, Roerich left a contribution to humanity through the
Roerich Pact, an international treaty designed to safeguard historic
and cultural treasures signed in 1935 by 22 countries. The pact,
whose banner is shown in this picture, was among forerunners of
the 1954 Bruges treaty that extends protection to world monuments.
